Our community is choosing to remember and honor those who lost their lives in that awful tragedy in ways that are quiet, personal, and respectful — centered on the themes of kindness and service to others, such, the municipality will not be hosting any town-wide event. First Selectman Pat Llodra said: "We are all in this together, and we need quiet, personal time to heal, that is our choice.” She said that any planned activities should not be directed by others outside the community whose goal is to attract the world’s attention back to Newtown."
We in Newtown are encouraging everyone, young and old, to use the weeks leading up to this anniversary, as a time to formally commit to acts of service and kindness. “Perform a kindness in honor of those who lost their lives at Sandy Hook School; and spend some time in reflection about how our future can be made better for all persons,” Mrs Llodra stated. “We have the opportunity to continue to move toward positive change — there is no greater gift of love than to act on behalf of those whose lives were taken.”

Healing Newtown Through
the Power of the Arts
Newtown and the Sandy Hook Community are deeply appreciative of the outpouring of love, support and generosity from our fellow citizens locally, regionally, nationally and worldwide.
The HealingNewtown through the Arts is a project developed and managed by the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC). The project was created by an ad-hoc team of local, regional, and state arts leaders in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy. The project focus is on the arts to help the Newtown community to strengthen and to heal.
A variety of art programs and events are scheduled ongoing at different venues throughout Newtown and offered free of charge thanks to the generous contributions from individuals as well as creative resources near and far. There’s something for everyone!
HealingNewtown through the Arts is operated entirely by volunteers. Efforts are underway to develop a sustainable operation for the long-term, including the hiring of staff and finding a permanent Art Space to conduct programs.
